Privacy policy

Last updated September 13, 2026

AIM handles photographs of your food, your health data and — if you sign in — your email address. This page says exactly what happens to each of them. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

  • You can use AIM without an account. Sign in only if you want your log on more than one device.
  • Your meal photos and descriptions are sent to an AI provider to work out what you ate. They are not used to train AI models.
  • We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and there are no third-party ad or analytics trackers in the app.
  • Apple Health access is optional, granted per data type by you, and revocable at any time in Apple's Health app.
  • You can delete any entry, or your entire account and everything in it, from inside the app. Deletion is real, not a flag.

What we collect, and why

Everything below is collected because a feature needs it. There is no category collected “just in case”.

WhatWhyHow long
Meal photosSent to our AI provider to identify what you ate. Kept on your log so you can see the meal later.Until you delete the entry or your account.
Meal descriptions and chat messagesThe same — they are what the estimate is made from, and recent turns are replayed so a follow-up can amend the right meal.Until you delete the entry or your account.
Nutrition entries and totalsThe log itself: what you ate, the nutrients, your corrections.Until you delete the entry or your account.
Goals, caps, custom metrics and watch termsSo the app tracks the things you asked it to track.Until you change them or delete your account.
Apple Health data you allowActive energy is read so exercise is reflected in your day. Energy and macros are written back if you turn that on.Read values are used for the day's totals and not stored separately.
Email addressOnly if you sign in, so your log can follow you to another device.Until you delete your account.

What gets sent to an AI provider

When you photograph or describe a meal, that photo or text — together with recent messages in the same conversation, so a follow-up like “actually it was a double” attaches to the right meal — is sent to a third-party AI provider, which returns the nutrition estimate.

That provider processes the request on our behalf under a commercial agreement. Under that agreement, your content is not used to train AI models. The provider may retain the request briefly for abuse monitoring and then deletes it.

What is not sent: your email address, your account identifier as anything other than an opaque id, your Apple Health history, or any other meal beyond the recent conversational context described above.

Apple Health

AIM asks for Apple Health access in two directions, separately, and neither is required to use the app.

  • Read — active energy, so a long run shows up against your day rather than leaving your numbers looking like you overate.
  • Write — the energy and macros of meals you logged, so your other apps can see them.

Health data is never sent to the AI provider, never used for advertising, and never shared with anyone. You can revoke either permission at any time in the Health app, per data type, without uninstalling AIM.

Who else touches your data

We use a small number of service providers, each for one job, each bound by contract to process data only on our instructions:

  • An AI provider — food identification from photos and text, as described above.
  • Cloud hosting and database — storing your log and serving the app.
  • Authentication — sign-in, if you choose to create an account.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising — under the CCPA's definitions of those terms or anyone else's.

Deleting your data

Any single entry can be deleted from the entry itself. Deleting it removes the photo, the description, the chat turns attached to it and the nutrition record.

Your whole account can be deleted from inside the app, under Account. That removes your log, your photos, your goals and your account record from our systems within 30 days, including from backups as they age out. It is not reversible and there is no grace period in which we keep it “just in case”.

If you used AIM without signing in, everything is tied to a device-scoped anonymous identifier; deleting the app removes your access to it and the associated records are deleted on the same schedule.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority. The app gives you access, correction and deletion directly; for anything else, write to privacy@aimacros.app and we will respond within the period the applicable law requires.

We will never charge you a different price or give you a worse app for exercising any of these rights.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest by our hosting provider. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.

Children

AIM is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us data, write to privacy@aimacros.app and we will delete it.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where required, those transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved mechanism.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects how your data is handled, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect — not only by editing this page. The date at the top always reflects the last substantive revision.

One thing this policy cannot do

AIM is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Its nutrition figures are estimates, its ingredient flags describe categories rather than measurements, and neither should be used to diagnose, treat or manage a medical condition. Talk to a clinician about anything that matters.
